Minutes after a neighbor called Bay State Gas to report a strong odor of gas, a massive gas explosion leveled a ranch house at 27 Turner Road in Scituate, Massachusetts on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. The explosion killed one person, damaged other houses, and shook windows for miles.

The gas company stated that a technician had been dispatched and was on his way to check on the complaint when the company got another call saying the house had exploded. The precise cause of the explosion is the subject of an ongoing investigation by authorities. The deceased victim was apparently in the house when it exploded. The house itself was obliterated by the blast.
