Crane

The plaintiff's husband had been working in a crane as an inspector. Suddenly the crane, which was elevated 100 feet above the ground, collapsed because of a defective universal joint in the boom assembly of the crane, causing the boom assembly to fall to the ground with the plaintiff's husband still inside. The plaintiff's husband died as a result of injuries received from impact. The machine was designed in such a way that the defective parts were not visible to inspectors of the decedent's employer who examined the crane prior to the accident.[101]
