In Massachusetts, Wellesley police are searching for the driver who fled the scene after his car or truck struck and killed a cyclist in his 40s.

Police say the vehicle was traveling north on Weston Road when it hit the cyclist riding in the same direction near the intersection of Linden Street last Friday afternoon, August 24th, 2012. Emergency workers found the man unconscious and took him to Newton Wellesley Hospital. The victim, now identified, was a Wellesley resident in his 40s. According to investigators, the bicyclist who was struck was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The vehicle that hit him did not stop and was last seen headed north on Weston Road.
Investigators are requesting that witnesses and anyone with information to contact the Wellesley Police Department at 781-235-1212.
As the use of bicycles on roadways grows, concerns have increased regarding the safety of riders and drivers, and the ability of existing roadways to handle the increased volume.
