Authorities say an 88-year-old man has died after being hit by a bus in Melrose. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority says the man was struck by an MBTA bus near the intersection of Franklin and Pratt Streets around 7 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It’s not clear if there were any passengers on the bus at the time of the incident. The MBTA says the driver of the bus will be kept out of service while the investigation continues.
