Worker sustained serious injuries resulting in permanent loss of vision when a bungee cord broke and caused blunt eye trauma to the worker's left eye. At the time of the accident, the worker was wearing a pair of defendant's safety glasses. The worker brought a products liability action against the manufacturer of the safety glasses for its failure to properly educate consumers and users as to which of its safety equipment is best suited for eye protection in recognized environments of use. The defendant held itself out as a "world leader" in eye protection, and claimed to have conducted "in-depth research of customer needs." At the time of the accident, the defendant manufactured alternative eyewear equipment more appropriate for the type of work being performed by the worker.
